The Stephen Searle Remembrance Fund raises funds for the Neonatal Unit, (previously known as the Special Care Baby Unit) in the Milton Keynes General Hospital, providing much needed equipment to help premature babies and very ill infants.
The fund was set-up by friends and family after the loss of our son Stephen, in a road traffic accident on the 17th Nov. 2000.
All the monies raised, to date, £90,500, have been donated by local people. This has bought items from Incubators and High Dependency Monitors, down to baby clothes and scratch mitts.
The fund also helps maintain “Stephen’s Room”, a room where parents of critically ill babies can spend precious time together with their baby, in a non-clinical environment.
Many hundreds of babies have been helped because of the generosity of all those who have supported the fund raising events.
One of our favourite fundraising events is the Annual Kids Fun Day and Tournament held at the Scots Club in Bletchley, this year to be held on Saturday 20th June. This is truly a family event. Each child taking part in any Tournament receives a medal and of course trophies are awarded to the winning teams. To add to that there are many stalls to entertain both children and adults.
It is quite incredible how many of us know of a “little one” who has been helped in the first few weeks of life, by the fantastic work that is carried out in the Milton Keynes Neonatal Unit.
Every child is a wonderful and precious gift.
Kind Regards
Sandie and Keith Searle.
